State Show

Yesterday, we got back from the Kentucky State 4-H Dog Show. This show brings together youth from counties around the state to show off what their dogs have learned since the previous show. Being the leader this year made the show feel very different than just being a participant. I'm proud of the sportsmanship our  kids showed and the growth I've seen in them since last year.
Me and my kiddos!

Dobby and Tessa both showed really well this weekend. Lots of blue ribbons, and plenty of placements that were worth the work we put in to get them. Dobby took first in Gamblers Agility, which consists of 30 seconds where the handler can choose any obstacles each with a different point value. Then you have 15 seconds to complete 4 distance obstacles where the handler cannot cross a line. The winner is the team with the most point accumulated.

This year our county had two Drill Teams, Pirates and Grease. Our Grease team took first place and Pirates took second. Our county has been State Champions in Drill Team for the past 6 years. This is a favorite among many of kids, because it allows teams to show off their obedience skills with cute costumes and fun music.
Dobby also placed first in Graduate Novice Obedience and Freestyle Obedience. Freestyle, or dancing with your dog, is one of Dobby's favorite sports(and mine!)
Tessa got to show in Showmanship(similar to junior showmanship), Rally and Beginner Agility. She loves Showmanship because she gets to be a princess and get lots of treats. She actually jumped all the jumps and went over a-frame in agility!
It was a good show and I'm sad that my time in 4-H is almost over!
