I've had questions lately about what is a dog drill team and what do they do, so I thought I'd answer them here on the blog. A dog drill team is similar to any horse or other drill team you may have seen before. It's like a traditional obedience routine often including heeling, sits, downs, pivoting, shuffling, etc. but it's set to music. We tend to choose interesting music that lends well to costuming and is easily identifiable to audiences.
The Lion King
In the past, our team's routines have included Michael Jackson's Thriller, TSO Christmas music, Lion King, and many others. We like for our music to be recognized the minute our routines begin. We're also big on costuming and makeup. Here are some of the routines we've performed:

To prepare our routines, we spend countless hours from May to August each year working on memorizing the routines and obedience needed to execute them. Our team has won our state competition for the past 5 years in a row. It can at times be stressful but I wouldn't trade it for the world!
